Subaru Forester 2010 Key Housing
Version 36
This is a replacement housing for a Subaru Forester 2010 key fob. This model may be compatible with keys from other third-generation Forester models from 2009 to 2013 but I did not test that.
This file is designed to be printed with Prusament PC Blend. You can print it with other materials (PLA is not recommended due to its low temperature resistance) but you may need to scale it up or down by a few % in your slicer.
To ensure that the key is held closed add a SMALL amount of 5-minute 2-component epoxy to the sides of the indentations of the top part. To open the key, you will need to use the metal part of the key as lever to pry it open.
Pictures below are from the previous versions of the key printed with ABS.
Print settings
For Prusament PC Blend:
Initial Layer Height: 0.2mm
Layer Height: 0.1mm
Infill: 100%
Rafts: No
Supports: Touching build plate
Support Overhang Angle: 85° (degrees)
Cooling: Off
Print Speed: 50mm/s
To reduce white marks on the surface of the product do not let the build plate fall below 60-65°C after the printing is done.
Post-Print processing
The following instructions are for ABS.
Out of the printer the side that was touching the print bed may have some white marks. In that case you will have to heat it up with a heat gun (or toaster) for a few seconds until they disappear (see picture).
Also, despite my best efforts in designing, the corners come out quite sharp so you will probably want to get a rotary tool (dremel) and smooth them out.
